Puppy Placement Process

If you are interested in acquiring a Lakecrew PWD, we ask that you submit a puppy placement questionnaire. Your honest and detailed answers will help us place the right puppy in the right home. As you go through the form, please give careful thought to our questions and your answers. We encourage you to ask questions.

We will review your completed questionnaire and determine whether or not we feel our puppies would be a good match for you and your family. We may call you as part of the evaluation process. Please be aware that Lakecrew PWDs reserves the right to refuse to provide a puppy to ANY applicant for ANY reason.

If we jointly agree that a Lakecrew PWD puppy is right for you:

If we are expecting a litter (confirmed pregnancy) or already have puppies:
We will ask for a good faith deposit* of $500 to hold your puppy. You will have a chance to review our contract before sending the deposit.
If we are not expecting a litter but have one planned for the future:
We can place you on a waiting list if you like.

*A deposit is only refundable if we determine that there is not an appropriate puppy available for you from our current litter. Factors that will affect our ability to place a puppy with you include:

The criteria that you specify.
The temperaments of the puppies.
The result of the pet/show evaluation.

All puppies will be placed as either PET or SHOW dogs, with corresponding contracts. We will not later re-evaluate the pet pups for show potential.

Our pet puppies are sold on AKC Limited Registration and spay/neuter contracts.
Our show potential puppies, if any, will be sold on a co-owner contract.

The price is the same for our pet and show puppies, but the responsibilities are much different. You make wish to take a few moments to read our "Pet versus Show" page.

Our puppies will be watched from the beginning to determine temperament and personality. In addition, they will be evaluated for breeding/show potential at about 6-7 weeks. All of that information will be used to match up each puppy to its new prospective family. We will do our best to match puppies to owners based upon the criteria you give us, and will do so in the order of deposits received. If we cannot meet one or more of your "must-haves", or believe that we cannot provide a good match due to temperament or other reason, we will refund your deposit.

The puppies will be ready for their new homes at 8-9 weeks of age. They will have been microchipped and given their first set of vaccinations.

We will provide new owners with a binder of information about their new puppy. It will include vet visit information, puppy care guidelines, general PWD information, health certifications for the parents, an AKC litter certificate, and photos of the puppy & parents.

As responsible breeders, we wish to stay in touch with those who purchase our puppies. Doing so helps us keep track of their growth, health, and activities. We will occasionally request that you send us photos of your Lakecrew PWD. If that type of communication isn't your cup of tea, then we are not the right breeders for you.

We want you to be happy and content with your pup AND with us as breeders. We also want your pup to be happy and content with YOU. That is why it is SO important that careful, educated decisions are made regarding ownership of a Lakecrew PWD.
