Getting a Lakecrew PWD Puppy

We do not maintain a "waiting" list in between litters, as we do not breed often enough to make that feasible.  We accept applications only if we have a litter expected or puppies available.

If we have an expected/available litter and you are interested in a Lakecrew Portuguese Water Dog:

  • We encourage you to contact us to ask any questions you may have about Lakecrew PWDs.
  • We ask that you submit an application via our placement form.  Filling it out does not obligate you to purchase a puppy from us, but we do require a completed application to begin the placement process with you.  We will get in touch with you regarding your application.
  • Continuation of the placement process beyond this point must be a mutual decision.  We must believe that a Lakecrew PWD would be a good fit for you, and you must think one of our puppies would be a good fit for you.
  • Assuming we are in agreement to proceed, we will send you a sample of our contract to review and a puppy preferences form to complete.  If you are ok with the specifications of our contract and would like to be matched with a puppy, you will need to send us the completed preferences form along with a $500 placement fee.  If we are able to place a puppy with you, the fee will be applied to the purchase price of a puppy.  If we are unable to place a puppy with you due to the size and makeup of the litter, the placement fee will be refunded in total.
  • After the puppies are born, we will send out regular "pupdates" to everyone on our litter placement list. We also regularly post pictures of the puppies on this web site.
  • The puppies will be temperament tested and evaluated for pet/show potential at around 7 weeks of age.
    • Our pet puppies are sold on an AKC Limited Registration and spay/neuter contract (are never to be bred).
    • Our show potential puppies are sold on a co-owner contract (with showing and breeding terms).
  • Like many PWD breeders, we do not let prospective owners choose a particular puppy.  We will match puppies to prospective families based first upon pet/show prospect categorization, temperament & personality, and gender (if a firm requirement).  Secondary considerations of coat type and color will then be matched if possible.  Show and performance homes will have priority over pet homes.  There are times when we are not able to place a puppy with someone who is on our placement list.  Every litter is different and sometimes there just isn't an appropriate puppy available.  This happens infrequently, but is a possibility.
The Portuguese Water Dog Club of America's Puppy Placement Q&A page contains very helpful information regarding the subject of puppy placement.
  • At 6-8 weeks of age, the puppies will be microchipped and given their first set of vaccinations.
  • The puppies will be ready for their new homes at 8-9 weeks of age.
